Consular news – Embassy 18 – July/August 2009

Consuls briefed on mass casualty events

Consuls recently attended a seminar informing them of procedures following a mass casualty event. Titled ‘What Happens Next?’ the seminar focused on the emergency responses of the Metropolitan Police and followed the pattern of procedures as they would unfold.

The seminar included presentations from the Diplomatic Protection Group about their emergency notification service, Project Hermes, DNA identification and the role of the Coroner, as well as a presentation about international repatriation from Rowland Brothers International.

Consuls also learned about the work of the Transport for London team in the aftermath of 7/7 and the day ended with an inspiring presentation from 7/7 survivor, Australian citizen Gill Hicks. The event was organised by the Metropolitan Police Family Liaison Team and sponsored by Rowland Brothers International.
