The YDL has grown as an organisation, notching up almost £10,000 for charity and putting on a packed programme of activities this year.
Reporting on the year’s events at the AGM, YDL co-ordinator Bernard Hamilton announced that the organisation collected £9,300 for four charitable causes £3,000 was raised through the Black & White Ball for the WFP; the Shiny Party collected £1,000 for the London homeless charity, St Mungos; £1,300 was donated to Discovery Latin America; and £4,000 was raised for Pemba
Over 500 diplomats took part in a range of activities, from informal get togethers, to lectures, business breakfasts and wine tastings.
At the AGM, the 2008/09 committee was elected. Bernard Hamilton (Malta) was voted in as YDL President. Joining him on the executive committee is Paola Ramirez (Panama) as Vice President; Julie Dowdle (Australia) as Secretary General; and Treasurer Aldo Zammit Borda (Commonwealth).
Mr Hamilton thanked YDL’s sponsors whose generous support made the programme possible, including IDS, BMW, Towergate Embassy Insurance, The Churchill Hyatt Hotel, Bacchanalia Wine Bar, Airmalta, Taste London and the Embassy of Kuwait.
