German Unity Day
German Ambassador Georg Boomgaarden and his wife Christiane certainly made their mark on the London diplomatic circuit with a Unity Day party to end all parties.
This year the festivities were co-hosted by the Minister President of Baden-Württemberg Günther Oettinger and the Residence was transformed into a schloss showcasing the very best from his region from traditional wood-carving and Black Forest folk costumes, to high-tech displays and even a Smart car, parked in the lobby.
A feast of fine regional cuisine was laid on, washed down with beer on tap and finished off with a gigantic Black Forest kirschentorte in the shape of the region, cut by the Ambassador and the Minister President. After the formalities, the oompah band struck up a tune all the invitation the Ambassador needed to hit the dance floor, much to the delight of onlookers.
