Novruz New Year
Baden Powell Hall was decorated with bright green shoots of wheatgrass as London’s diplomatic corps joined the Ambassador of Azerbaijan, Fakhraddin Gurbanov, for Novruz, the ancient New Year’s ritual dating back three millennia and celebrated all over Central Asia. The Ambassador explained how the festival had helped keep the identity of Azerbaijan alive throughout centuries of occupation. In addition to a spread of Azeri food, family and friends gathered to watch a colourful and high-energy performance by the National Dance Ensemble of Azerbaijan.
