Africa day
London’s African heads of mission celebrated the 46th anniversary of Africa Day with an energetic display of music and dance, hosted by the Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps, the High Commissioner for Botswana Roy Blackbeard. South Africa’s High Commissioner Dr Lindiwe Mabuza gave the welcome remarks, in which she said the African Union had achieved its goal of liberating the continent of colonialism and apartheid, but that Africans were still trapped in poverty. Reflecting on the theme of this year’s celebration ‘Towards a United Peaceful and Prosperous Africa’ she reminded guests of the upcoming infrastructure conference in London in November which is hoped will unite Africa logistically.
