Queen's Birthday Party
London’s Ambassadors celebrated the Queen’s Birthday with a reception in
the magnificent surroundings of Lancaster House. The reception occurred a day after Prime Minister Gordon Brown had announced his new ministerial team at the Foreign Office so it was an ideal opportunity for diplomats to meet their new ministers. In his speech, Foreign Secretary David Miliband made a plea for more open societies to confront five global challenges: the economic crisis, climate change, migration, assisting fledgling democracies and strengthening international institutions.
