Rear Admiral Ronald Henderson and Mrs Jean LeBaron look on as US Chargé d’Affaires Richard LeBaron gives his Independence Day address

On a balmy summer’s evening, Richard LeBaron and his wife Jean invited guests to celebrate US Independence Day at Winfield House with a Chicagostyle BBQ – the Embassy’s way of supporting Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Olympics. The guest of honour was astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who celebrated the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing this year. In his speech Mr LeBaron reminded guests that this year marks the bicentenary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln, whose vision of America made the election of Barack Obama possible. Guests were given a short biography of Lincoln as a keepsake.
