1989 revisited
This year’s Czech National Day was extra special, as it coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia and the country’s liberation from communism. It was standing room only as guests thronged to the Czech Embassy in Kensington Palace Gardens to raise a glass of fine Czech beer to toast the milestone anniversary with the newly-arrived Czech Ambassador Michael Zantovsky who, as Vaclav Havel’s right-hand man and press secretary, was at the forefront of the Velvet Revolution. Guests were able to relive those dramatic days through the Embassy’s commemorative photographic exhibition of the events of 1989.
