High note
The Unification Day celebrations at the Embassy of Romania had a special significance as they coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Romanian Revolution in 1989.
Over 300 guests drawn from the world of diplomacy, politics and business joined Romanian Ambassador Ion Jinga and his wife Daniela to toast the milestone occasion.
It was a chance, said Ambassador Jinga in his opening remarks, to reflect on the ancient nation’s progress, from a state in deep isolation to a full member of the EU and Nato.
Then the soaring voice of Romanian soprano, Leontina Vaduva lifted the audience, with a pitch-perfect performance of the national anthems and Romanian songs, before guests tucked into the fabulous buffet of Romanian delicacies.
