High Commissioner Zola Skweyiya welcomes the Ambassador of Cuba Rene Mujica
Freedom Day
This year, a toot of the vuvuzela marked the start of South Africa’s Freedom Day party. In the 16th year since South Africa’s first democratic elections, the Rainbow Nation is hosting Africa’s first Football World Cup and the guest of honour at the event was Zakumi, the mascot representing South Africa’s 10 dialects and diversity. In his address, High Commissioner Zola Skweyiya said the tournament would leave the country and the African continent with a lasting legacy. “This is a chance for Africa to share its humanity and heritage with billions around the world,” he said.
