It surely was a measure of the popularity of the long-serving Portuguese Ambassador Antonio Santana Carlos and his wife Maria seeing hundreds of guests from the world of diplomacy, politics and business crowding into their Belgravia Residence to toast Portugal’s National Day for one last time as the Ambassador is due to depart London in October.
