Mozambique miracle
A huge contingent of African heads of mission joined the long-serving High Commissioner for Mozambique, Antonio Gumende, and his wife, Simangalisso, in toasting the achievements of Mozambique 35 years of hard-won independence, from a war-torn country to a united nation. In his address, the High Commissioner said his country had progressed “beyond recognition”, boasting 6.1 per cent growth, even during the global recession and he thanked the UK government for its continued development assistance despite the straitened economic times.
