Abolition of the Slave Trade bicentennary
Commemorating the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade, Historians and Human Rights Group hosted an academic seminar at the FCO on the work of the Office's Slave Trade Department in October, as part of this year's commemorative activities.

Minister Kim Howells opened the event and participants heard papers on, amongst other subjects, the work of abolitionists and the role of the Royal Navy. Diplomatic representatives from Africa and the Caribbean attended the event.
