High Commissioner Turay greets the Ambassador of Kuwait and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Mr Khaled Al Duwaisan

Bangladesh’s Big Birthday Party
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh’s hardwon Independence following a bloody liberation war. To commemorate the historic occasion, the High Commissioner for Bangladesh, Mr Mohammad Sayeedur Rahman Khan, invited diplomats, politicians and members of the huge Bangladeshi community in the UK for a festive birthday curry in Kensington Town Hall. Guests stood to attention for a rousing rendition of the National Anthem (written by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, whose 150th birthday is also being celebrated this year) and heard speeches from the High Commissioner and guest of honour Dominic Grieve MP, after which everyone gathered around for the ceremonial cutting of the Bangladeshi Birthday Cake.
