Ambassador Pim Waldeck toasts Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands
Royal celebration
The Dutch Embassy’s toast to the Queen’s Birthday celebration had an extra buzz about it and it wasn’t just the plentiful Heineken on tap and the convivial mix of guests. Held at the Mall Galleries just two days before the Royal Wedding, guests could see the flags lining the Mall outside as Royal fans and the world’s media set up camp for the night. Inside Ambassador Waldeck reminded guests of the longstanding connections between the Dutch and the British royal families and the two nations. Following the traditional singing of Het Wilhelmus, the
Dutch national anthem thought to be the oldest in the world or, as the Ambassador joked, “the world’s first protest song” the guests raised their pints
