Eritrea turns 20
Friends of Eritrea joined the Ambassador of Eritrea Mr Tesfamicael Gerahtu Ogbaghiorghis to celebrate 20 years of Eritrean Independence. After a minute’s silence to mark the sacrifice of those who died fighting for independence, the programme began with presentations charting the country’s progress, including a talk on Eritrean tourism and the Eritrean education system. A traditional Eritrean dinner was served while celebrations in Asmara were streamed live on video after which the Ambassador reflected on what he called “twenty years of dignity” and Eritrea’s resilience in the face of conflict, sanctions and drought and the country’s determination to succeed.
