Slovene success
The word “love” forms the heart of the word Slovenia and there certainly was plenty of that at the country’s 20th Anniversary celebrations, held on the terrace of the Houses of Parliament where the many guests could enjoy sweeping views of the Thames while sipping Slovene wine and enjoying a slice of traditional Slovene layer cake or gibanica. Co-hosted by the Slovene Ambassador Mr Iztok Jarc and Mr Neil Parish MP, chair of the British-Slovenia All-Party Parliamentary Group, it was a hugely festive occasion. Speaking as the guest of honour, Foreign Secretary William Hague said Slovenia was “an outstanding success story of our generation” which was a “model of success” for the Western Balkans.
