With palm trees, a steelpan band and rum cocktails, it could have been the Caribbean only the odd cloudburst reminded guests they were in the UK. But that didn’t dampen the spirits at this year’s Bahamas National Day. High Commissioner Paul Farquharson was joined by the IMO Secretary General and the CEO of the Bahamas Maritime Authority in raising a glass to an independent Bahamas, a proud shipping nation. Mrs Sharon Farquharson cut the birthday cake, after which the steelpan struck up a tune and High Commissioner Farquharson encouraged guests to “take their
shoes off and dance”.
