Uruguay turns 200
Invoking the maritime traditions of Uruguay, Ambassador Julio Moreira-Moran and his wife Ana hosted a bicentennial party at the Wyndam Hotel overlooking the yachts of Chelsea Harbour. As guests admired the view, while sampling some sensational chivitos (Uruguay’s more-ish meat sandwiches) and Uruguayan wines, they were reminded of the courageous Orientales who 200 years ago took on the might of the Spanish Empire and their two huge neighbours. Finally they gained their independence, with a little help from British mediation…
