High Commissioner Palma gives an inspired Independence Day speech
Belize turns 30
Diplomats joined the effervescent High Commissioner for Belize, Kamela Palma, to celebrate her country’s 30th Anniversary of Independence. In her address, the High Commissioner said the festivities were a fitting tribute to the “father of the nation” George Cadle Price who had passed away two days before the milestone anniversary. She urged the Belizeans in attendance to get involved in the country of their birth. Surrounded by her beautiful grandchildren, she added that she was recruiting Belizean youngsters to be ambassadors for her country. The evening was a celebration of Belize’s diverse cultural heritage which spans both Latin America and the Caribbean with a menu of Latino and Caribbean treats, washed down with Belizean beer and rum. The evening ended with music provided by a mariachi band as well as West-African style garafuna drummers and their infectious beat had guests dancing until late.
