Ambassador Hamiti gives his Independence Day address
Young nation
Celebrating four years of independence, Kosovo is the youngest nation in Europe, born out of terrible conflict, said Kosovo’s Ambassador Muhamet Hamiti as he thanked nations like Britain for coming to its aid. He added the nation had made “monumental strides” in its short years of existence with 87 countries now recognising its independence and it was hoped that Kosovo would move from supervised to full independence. Guest of honour, historian Noel Malcolm, gave a historical perspective and made a thought-provoking comparison between Kosovo’s bid for independence and that of Scotland. He concluded by saying Kosovo was a “very strong four-year-old” with a bright future.
