Twenty years of ties
Diplomats and friends of Azerbaijan joined the Ambassador of Azerbaijan Fakhraddin Gurbanov and the Chair of the Anglo-Azerbaijani society Lord Fraser to celebrate 20 years of diplomatic ties with the UK. Addressing the assembled guests, the Ambassador said ties had gone from strength to strength, especially in the energy field, adding that Azerbaijan’s non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council had opened avenues for political dialogue. He noted that as the third most preferred country for Azeri students, people-to-people ties would strengthen cultural bridges between the two countries. Lord Fraser said he looked forward to the expansion of relations into new areas and wished Azerbaijan well as host of the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
