Ambassador Vygaudas Usackas welcomes Baroness Thatcher
Lady Thatcher honoured
Lady Thatcher was presented with Lithuania's highest decoration by Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus at a ceremony in London celebrating the Baltic country's 90th anniversary of statehood. Lady Thatcher was honoured for her tough leadership of the democratic world against the Soviet regime. The president said the former Prime Minister's uncompromising stance during the 1980s led to the weakening of the Soviet Union and its eventual demise allowed Lithuania to re-establish its independence.
