Cutting the 60th anniversary birthday cake

Sri Lanka at 60
The High Commissioner for Sri Lanka Kshenuka Senewiratne was joined by diplomats, government ministers and friends of Sri Lanka to toast the island's 60th anniversary in traditional style. Defiant in the face of violence back home, the High Commission was determined to celebrate this landmark occasion: the building resounded with music, the walls were decorated with celebratory frescoes and tables groaned under the spread of spicy cuisine and egg pankcakes (Hoppers). To finish off the party, departing guests were then given a slice of birthday cake and the finest Ceylon tea to take home with them.
