Throngs of guests crowded into the mirrored ballroom of the Italian Ambassador’s Residence to join Ambassador Giancarlo Aragona in celebrating his country’s National Day. With the Euro 2008 football championships just days away, MPs, peers, diplomats and journalists put politics aside to discuss the prospects of their hosts as they filled up on mini pizzas. Win or lose, Italy won the battle for the British public’s support according to opinion polls.
