Golden Jubilee

Celebrations for Cyprus’s Golden Jubilee began early with an exhibition and musical concert entitled 50 Years of the Republic of Cyprus – 5000 Years of Music from Cyprus, co-organised by Cultural Counsellor Dr Niki Katsaouni and the Greek and Roman Department at the British Museum.

The guest of honour was First Lady of the Republic of Cyprus Mrs Ersie Christofia who was welcomed by the Director of the British Museum Mr Neil MacGregor and shown a variety of Cypriot antiquities, after which guests enjoyed a concert featuring Cypriot musicians Victoria Mavromoustaki (violin) and Eleni Mavromoustaki (piano).
