Wurth seeing
How does a diplomat endure the tedium of meetings in Brussels? Hubert Wurth, the Ambassador of Luxembourg, doodled. And, ironically, the product of some of those doodles will be exhibited at the European Commission's Headquarters for the next two weeks. A self-taught artist, Wurth takes after his artist father, who encouraged his abstract drawings.
The Ambassador's 'other life' gives him a different approach to the morning newspapers, too. Whereas his colleagues might tear out an interesting article, he will be drawn to an image that forms the basis for an abstract collage.
Sometimes, especially when he worked at the UN, the gritty reality of his peripatetic diplomatic life seeped into his art; and often the chaos or quiet of his art became an escape from the rigour of his day job.
DARK 6X ONE BY ONE m is showing at European Commission from 3-13 June
